Recently Gartner published the report, “Infrastructure Is Everywhere: The Evolution of Data Centers.” It examines how the future role of Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) leaders will shift from solely focusing on managing hardware and software and consist more of overseeing global infrastructure and its associated services. This transition will be all about enabling the rapid deployment of business services and deploying workloads to the right locations. The report notes that “Due to integration and connectivity, colocation and/or cloud partner ecosystems will be critical for future infrastructures. All workloads are not equal, and proper placement is key to unlocking their true potential to the business.”
The report states that businesses need agility and IT to provide some guidance, governance, and security, and the ability to reuse. If not, operating costs and complexity will skyrocket.
